A Ferrari isn't a Ferrari to me unless it's red. Nice car.

Thanks......it’s my first so it had to be red. If I buy another one later on I would be open to other colours.

That’s sweet! You’ve gotta be loaded though. I could buy a couple decent cars for the same amount as annual service!

“Loaded” is a relative term. I’ve done one 5-digit major service on this car and will probably do only one more before selling it—my bank account is getting tired of the expense and I will eventually get tired of the frequent downtime (there’s ALWAYS something broken or needing improvement).

Annual service is $800 at the dealer, $400 at my local exotic specialist. Not out of line with, say, Porsche.

So it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be? Then again it's gotta be worth it when you’re hearing that engine note.

The annual, yes. The major every 5 years is as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Mine was $14k, of which $11k was parts. Check out my post on it if you’ve got a few minutes.

Granted, that’s a bad major where a lot of expensive one-time fixes were applied. Ever heard of the famous melting headers?

Ah, the famous melting headers. Which is worse, those, or the valve guides?

Definitely the valve guides. Fortunately, my mechanic told me that he saw the updated valve guides on my ‘98.

Bad valve guides are not immediately observable, and can result in 40 bent valves. That will cost five digits, and the leading digit will not be a 1. Most of these disasters have already happened, so the chances of landing a car with this time bomb are low and still decreasing.

A header that has melted holes in itself will inform you quite quickly, as it did on mine.
